Pass Plus courses are also available to those who have recently passed their practical driving test and wish to gain more experience behind the wheel. If this course is completed successfully, then not only will you have gained further experience, but you will also be eligible for a discount on your motor insurance.
The pass plus course is a six module training syllabus, designed by the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) to develop the skills and knowledge of newly qualified drivers (Who pass their driving test) and broaden their driving experience.
It will give new drivers the chance to drive without L plates under guidance in a range of driving conditions. There is NO test at the end of the course. It has to be completed within the first year of passing your driving test.
Module 1
Introduction and Town driving.
" Observation, judgments and awareness.
" Eye contact.
" Consideration for vulnerable road users.
" Positive driving.
" Safety margins all round your vehicle.
" Typical features of urban roads.
Module 2
All Weather Driving. (This will be a theory session, with practice in other modules if the opportunity allows)
" Rain
" Sleet and snow.
" Mist and fog.
" Bright sunshine.
" See and be seen.
" Appropriate speeds.
" Skidding, the cause and cures.
Module 3
Out of Town Driving and Rural Roads.
" The main differences from town driving.
" Observing the road ahead.
" Making progress safely.
" Bends hills and uneven roads.
" Safe separation distances.
" Safe overtaking.
" Anticipating all other road users.
Module 4
Night Driving.
" Lights
" Adjusting to the dark.
" Driving at dusk and dawn.
" Judging speed and distance.
" Anticipating all other road users.
Module 5
Dual carriageway Driving.
" Effective observation as far ahead and behind scanning mirrors frequently, being aware of blind spots. Planning near middle and far distance.
" Judgments and planning. Safe separation distances and safe overtaking.
" Joining and leaving dual carriageways.
" Lane discipline.
Module 6
Motorway Driving.
" Joining and leaving motorways.
" Planning journeys in advance.
" Safe speeds in different circumstances.
" Effective observation and anticipation.
" Signs signals and markings.
" Lane discipline.
" Courtesy and co-operation with other road users.
" Motorway fatigue.
" Breakdown procedures.
